After another of our series of our ever-popular Christmas Concerts, that we so very much enjoyed performing for you in December 2024, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us for our first celebratory concert, entitled Earth Song, to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the choir in 1975! We are delighted to present this concert in St. Patrick’s Church, Lower Glanmire Road (nearby to the train station) on Saturday, May 17 at 4.00pm.
Our programme is centred around a monumental piece by Joby Talbot called Santiago, which is the final movement of his work Path of Miracles, that vividly recounts the spiritual journey of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela over hill and vale, through town and village at the final stages of the long journey across Northern Spain. To complement this epic piece, we are also singing works that highlight humankind’s existence on the Earth and our interaction with each other and nature, as well as a nod to the choir's illustrious past, delving into the immense choir library that has been amassed over the 50 years, performing a virtuosic setting of that great hymn of praise, Gloria in Excelsis Deo by Séamas de Barra that was commissioned by the choir in 1982, a fitting work given the occasion.
Our concert lasts just under an hour - there is free admission with a retiring collection in support of the fabric of St Patrick’s Church, and we look forward to having you celebrate with us in this our 50th year of song!
